Fire protection measures requisite High-voltage laboratories and EMV test laboratories are frequently to be found in research institutions, universities and test institutes. Densely packed with metering equipment, they represent a high concentration of value, while some experiments even continue running during the night when nobody is present. Highfrequency absorbent materials, printer paper and cables represent possible fire hazards, smokers requisites thrown away carelessly (despite a smoking ban) and technical faults in equipment are possible sources of ignition. Appropriate fire protection measures have to be taken. Interfering electrical fields Any conventional, point detectors have their function interfered with by the electrical, magnetic and electromagnetic fields generated during experiments. On the other hand, the highly sensitive measurements themselves can be interfered with by the data transmissions by the fire detectors. Indeed, even other external interfering signals will be input into the measuring room through the antenna effect of the alarm wiring. With the ASD aspiration smoke detection system, the
place of smoke detection is separated physically from the place of evaluation:
the evaluation unit with the sensitive detector is located outside of
the test room in a place protected from the Advantages of the aspiration smoke detection system – False alarms cannot be set off by high fields
as the evaluation unit is located outside of the experimental area.
