Existing
fire hazards
Power supply and data lines are often laid in hollow
floors and ceilings. The cables, often PVC sheathed, are both a fire load
and a possible ignition source. Particularly in the case of power supply
cables, there are repeated cases of outbreaks of cable fires because of
over-loading. Being struck by lightning can also result in a destructive
fire.
The majority of computer rooms or switching and control
installations are provided with hollow floors. A shutdown because of fire
will have immeasurable consequences for the company affected.

Solution with point-to-point
detectors
– In accordance with statutory regulations, operational
checks have to be carried out periodically on every fire detector system.
This means that point-to-point fire detectors in hollow floors have to
be accessible and the floor plates have to be removable for the operational
checks.
– In addition, alarm indicators have to be installed in order to
localize the seat of the fire. The indicator can be seen from above through
inlaid glazed apertures in the floor plates.
– No cabinets may be placed on any floor plates, beneath which fire
detectors are located. This means that the locating of cabinets is restricted.
– In case of special ventilating conditions, it is possible that
the smoke from a fire will flow past the smoke detector and therefore
no fire alarm can be actuated.

Solution with the ASD aspiration

– As the evaluation unit is located at a readily
accessible point, operational checks and maintenance works can be carried
out easily and without removing floor plates.
– In addition, there is no need for alarm indicators and show glasses.
– Thanks to the active smoke suction principle and the many suction
apertures, it is not possible for smoke from an incipient destructive
fire to be sukked through the ventilation system past the smoke detector.
– If all items of expenditure are included, a ASD aspiration smoke
detection system is in every case the more reasonably costed and safer
solution.
